Gray Stakes: The Case of the Implausible Impaler is a forthcoming murder mystery novella by R.L. Akers and the eighth book in the Files of Gray Gaynes series.
This story picks up two weeks after the events of Gray Dawn, as Gray Gaynes returns to U-Turn (a fictional oil field work camp in North Slope Borough, Alaska) to begin his next two-week "hitch"... only to discover that one of the company's security personnel has been murdered in a rather strange way.

As with each Gray Gaynes installment, the chapter numbering within Gray Stakes is unique. In this case, numbers are displayed using Cyrillic numerals, a numeral system derived from and used in conjunction with 10th-century Cyrillic.
