"Black & White" is a short story by R.L. Akers, published on October 15, 2025 as an exclusive inclusion in the Gray in the City anthology of murder mysteries.
Unlike major installments (numbered novellas) in the Files of Gray Gaynes series, "Black & White" itself does not feature a murder mystery. Rather, the story acts as an extended flashback, depicting Gray Gaynes' early days as an NYPD probationary patrolman (before his marriage or distinctive injuries) and relating the events leading up to his father's arrest.
Artwork
As with each Gray Gaynes installment, the chapter numbering within "Black & White" is unique. In this case, each number is displayed in a font reminiscent of U.S. currency denominations.
